Bill Summary: Prepare for the next crisis – Allow more vehicles to respond to emergencies
January 22, 2013
During the intense wildfire season of 2011, Chief Nim Kidd and the Texas Division of Emergency Management played a critical role in coordinating the response of state agencies.
Unfortunately, Department of Emergency Management vehicles aren’t currently authorized to be used as “emergency vehicles” during a local or state disaster. That means these emergency responders can’t use lights or sirens on their vehicle, nor are they granted immediate access to priority areas.
This bill gives our statewide emergency managers more tools to do their job and keep Texans safe.
