After just over a month on the job, Austin Sen. Kirk Watson took control of the Texas Senate today. The Democrat and former mayor stood in as presiding officer over the Upper Chamber for a time this morning, after Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst stepped out to attend meetings.During his tenure as the Big Cheese, the business was resolutions, resolutions, resolutions. To recognize the accomplishments of Divine Impact Ministries, several Texas songwriters, pharmacists, residents of the East Texas city of Athens, a Iwo Jima veteran and the Houston-area community of Friendswood. At one point, Watson had to step down briefly … to get a resolution of his own approved. It recognized Relay for Life: Light Up the Dome, a cancer prevention program slated Feb. 26 at the Capitol. He is a cancer survivor. How was life on that historic podium?”It’s a good view,” Watson quipped.
