The Texas Senate on Wednesday night approved a bill incorporating funding that State Senator Kirk Watson has pursued since the session began to help Bastrop County and that community recover from the 2011 Labor Day fires.
House Bill 1025, the state’s supplemental appropriations bill, will provide $4.9 million for Bastrop State Park.
It also will provide $4.4 million in disaster recovery funds that the county can use to draw down millions more in federal funds.
“This was my number one priority for Bastrop County. These resources are absolutely essential for this community to rebuild following the devastating fires a year and a half ago,” Senator Watson said. “This vital aid represents a real victory for a proud place that’s still rebuilding and recovering from this tragic event. It shows the strength of this community and the importance that Texas places on it.”
