The Sunset Commission took important and necessary steps today to clean up the management mess at the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. In total, we adopted about 30 separate changes, including reforms that will:
During the review of the agency, the Sunset Commission staff found the agency’s finances to be in “disarray” and determined that lax inspection and enforcement procedures potentially allowed bad actors to operate unchecked. The agency also fixated on veterinarians that run no-kill shelters, such as Austin Pets Alive.
Together, all of these changes should ensure Texans — and their loved pets — get the Veterinary Board they deserve.
