Bevo is going south of the border. The University of Texas is leading a delegation to Mexico City, where UT President William Powers will meet with U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Antonio Garza. Garza will host the delegation, other university partners and hundreds of UT alumni. The delegation includes State Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Travis; Jorge Guajardo, Mexico’s consul general to Austin; Terri Givens, UT’s vice provost for international efforts; James Huffines, chairman of the UT System Board of Regents; and Buddy Garcia, Texas deputy secretary of state. “Texas gains strength from our diverse population and from our border with Mexico,” Powers says. “We are collaborators in education, in commerce, in scientific research and in the arts. It’s vitally important that our ties remain close, that our interactions remain open and effective, and that our partnerships be strengthened by new and creative initiatives.”UT boasts more than 1,200 Mexicans in its international alumni.
