The Texas Workforce Commission is investing in Texas' manufacturing workforce. TWC is giving Austin Community College a Skills Development Fund grant for $386,218 that will be used to provide job training to manufacturing workers at 10 companies. These companies are part of a manufacturing consortium. "Thanks to this grant, these employers will be able to get customized training that they need to expand their manufacturing operations," says Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin. In 2006, grants from the Skills Development Fund helped 125 Texas employers, according to TWC. "The state has money available for workforce training for all companies that are eligible under TWC requirements," says Kathy Walton, executive director of custom training for ACC. "A company, working through us, can access training they would otherwise not be able to afford."
