State Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, will announce today a program that will allow Austin school district students in sixth through eighth grades to serve as pages in the Senate for a day.
Student pages will begin the day with an explanation of the legislative process and then watch from the Senate floor while the Legislature is in session. They also may help in Senate offices and committees.
"I'm very happy to be able to give kids this chance," Watson said in a statement. "There are lots of reasons to love growing up in Austin and one of them should be the chance to see state government in action right here in your backyard. These students will have a great learning experience and opportunity. It will be fun for them and for me."
Interested students should contact their principal.
