Watson bill targets unresponsive TWC member

Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, today filed Senate Bill 2576, which says that members of the Texas Workforce Commission may present their opinion and give advice on issues that affect the agency or are before the Legislature.
The bill is a response to Commission Andres Alcantar, who during his Nominations Committee hearing earlier this year refused to answer a number of questions from senators about the state’s unemployment trust fund and how federal stimulus dollars might affect that fund. He said often during that testimony that he could not get into giving his opinion on matters before the agency.
