Watson Says Truth In Taxes Lacking

KLBJ News Radio

State Senator Kirk Watson of Austin says those seeking elected office talk about taxes to get elected. But he says elected officials should take those conversations one step further and talk about truth in taxes.

Watson says an example of what he's talking about can be seen in the issue surrounding fines collected from red-light runners. He says he was on the state's Transportation and Homeland Security Committee that discussed how the money would be used. He says the only way the committee went forward with the issue was that there was agreement that a portion of the money would go to health care, to help fund medical trauma centers. He says it was another example of where the legislative leadership was more concerned about balancing the budget than truth in taxation.

Watson says when it comes to truth in taxes, all legislators have to be held accountable. He says they owe that to their constituents.
