Yep, the legislative session is over. That’s a good thing.
And now the period in which the Governor can veto bills is over, too. That’s another good thing. I got out of there with only two bills being vetoed, including one that would help assure kids get recess in school. A coalition that includes the American Heart Association, Texas Pediatric Society, and the Texas PTA came together and supported this bill to keep our children active and healthy (Texas ranks near the bottom in childhood obesity). I mean, who’s against kids getting recess? Well, we know one person. Go figure.
And, yes, it was good to get a high five from Texas Monthly magazine in its biennial list of “Best Legislators”.
But the really good news is that it’s time to mark your calendar for my annual Concert Under the Stars. It’s October 3rd at Zilker Park. I’m excited that we’ll have multiple Grammy Award winner Bruce Hornsby and his band The Noisemakers.
This is the 14th year for this really fun event. We always have a big crowd participating in what’s now an Austin political tradition.
Don’t wait! Get your tickets now. You won’t want to miss this.
