January 24, 2008
This is just a quick note to remind you of the big Register to Rock show on Saturday. We’ll be at Stubb’s Barbecue, at the corner of Red River and 8th Street in Austin, from noon to 6 p.m.
There’ll be more than a half-dozen rock bands from several area high schools playing all day, and we’ll be signing up as many young voters as we can for the 2008 elections.
This will be a special day, and I’m hoping some folks will remember it as fondly as I remember my first vote. I know we’ll have a lot of fun. Please come, and bring some young voters with you.
By the way, whether or not I see you this weekend, be sure to register soon. The deadline for registering for the primary elections in March is Feb. 4. You can check your registration status here.
The concert isn’t the only big event this weekend. I’m also running the 3M Half Marathon on Sunday. I’m looking forward to it, though “fun” probably won’t prove to be the right word to describe it. It’s tough for me to drive 13 miles without getting a little sore.
Sunday will be the first of two half-marathons I’m running in less than a month. On Feb. 17, I’ll be in the AT&T Half Marathon. Yeah, I intend to argue that this means I technically will have run a marathon.
Anyway, I hope to see you this weekend, either at Stubb’s or on the street – rocking, running, or praying that I finish.
