Friends, it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better.
But I’m hopeful it will get better more quickly if we all do our part. The outstanding work of researchers at UT Austin and Dell Medical School makes it very clear that we must stay home and work safe to ensure our healthcare system can help everyone who will need care in the coming months.
Prepare yourself to start seeing tents going up near area hospitals soon to provide additional space. It’ll seem ominous, but it’s just good planning, according to the experts.
We each have a responsibility to maintain proper social distancing. We all need to do it — even if you’re feeling just fine (asymptomatic people can still spread COVID-19). And you need to maintain the right social distance even if you’re not in a high-risk group (more than half of our COVID-19 cases are people under 40). As the folks at Big Flavor Films, say in this wonderful video about Austin, it’s an act of love.
We’re in for a challenging time, but I hope we all look for ways to show our heart to the people and community we love.
Stay Home, Work Safe.
